Who Are You?
When the question, who are you? is asked, what is your gut response? What comes first for you? Well, recently, I was seeing a movie, and what I realized is your identity is who you really are when all things are stripped away.
So take away my law degree, the fact that I'm a daughter, a sister, a friend, a podcaster, a writer, take all that away, and Who am I? You see, I have realized that in the bid to do what we think is necessary, we often forget who we really are!
What have you allowed define you? Why do disappointments devastate you so much that it is hard to see any other thing through that hazy cloud?
A change of perspective only occurs when you find your identity in the one who created you. Remember when Mufasa was telling Simba -"Remember who you are?" That seemed ominous, but it really was what Simba needed, and when he actually internalized that statement, he saved the Pride Land! Well, this is me telling you to "Remember Whose you are" This will help and lead you. Maybe it is not what you want to hear, but I can bet that it is what you NEED.
I know that we all think we are good people, and that's okay, so long as we realize that sometimes, we can be hypocritical towards ourselves. So, how about we live to BE good, not to assume we are good. Maybe we need that image broken to see what actually is when we begin to put things together?
Whew! That was pretty heavy, wasn't it? Lol. Well, stay with me. If I were to ask you again at this moment, with all this in mind, Who are you? Who is Princess Odey? What would your response be?
In the movie that I referenced earlier, when a character was asked who she was, she said she did not know, but she did one thing, she studied her life's manual and so when asked again, below was her response;
" I am created by God;
He designed me so I'm not a mistake
His son died for me just so I could be forgiven.
He picked me to be his own, so I'm chosen.
He redeemed me, so I am wanted,
He showed me grace just so I could be saved;
He has a future for me because he loves me.
So I don't wonder anymore... I am a Child of God"
Whoosh! Powerful right? There's a line in a song that comes to mind that says, "Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know" Sometimes, in our daily hustle and bustle, we forget, and that's okay because we have someone who will always be there to remind us. All we need to do is ask. Some pointers to note are that who you are does not come from what the culture says OR from how you feel at a certain time. It's a creator that gets to define its creation. You'd still get to have good and bad days, and you'd still struggle, but the ONE thing that you can count on is the one who loves you recklessly and wants nothing more than good for you. I mean, he overcame EVERYTHING for you, so just walk with him daily, take it one step at a time, and discover EXACTLY who you are! A royal priesthood, a peculiar nation, and one who is called to make an impact, and so I hope that when all is said and done, we never lose who we are.
P.S.- It's okay not to know. That is what this journey is about, isn't it? Getting to know YOU? And who better knows a product than its manufacturer?
I hope you go far to meet yourself. I know, I will.
Your fellow human,
Princess đź’•
